Wilderness Systems Ride 135 - New Redesign, 2012

Wilderness Systems recently announced and released the 2012 Ride 135, a redesign of the prior model that has shown to be much improved over the older 135.  Improving on a boat that was already as great as the prior 135 means this boat is an absolutely stellar fishing kayak.

wilderness_systems_ride-135

With a boosted weight capacity and more legroom makes this boat perfect for larger paddlers.  Slight changes in hull design allow this boat to keep the stability that it has come to be known for while increasing the efficiency.  There is not another "Big Guys'" kayak that compares to the speed and tracking that the Ride 135 offers.

SQUID ANCHOR 2011Team East Coast Kayak Fishing - Extended Use Review

squid_600Here is a picture of how most of the us rigged our Squid Anchor. There is piture below of the bag we use to carry the anchor.  Over the many years of kayak fishing and testing gear the Squid Anchor fits into my aresal of simplcity and has become standard gear and goes on every trip.  I consider myself a situational anchor user. Depending on what type of fish I am targeting on any given day, I might use a anchor. For example in salt water on the north east coast I will deploy the squid anchor while targeting winter flounder or black fish. It also works great for anchoring around structure such as bridge pileings, rock piles, jettys, and wrecks. Fishing in rivers and anchoring up for trout fishing you can get right into the pools where the fish hang. Also great for lakes and ponds when you do not want to drift.  I have also put the anchor bag inside out, so the flukes are inside and I drag the bag on the bottom so I can work certain areas but still drift slowly.

GearTrac Universal Track kit by YakAttack

geartrack

The wait is finally over!  All new from YakAttack the GearTrac allows anybody to add a track system to their kayak.  Since the introduction of factory mounted tracks we have received seemingly endless requests to add tracks to other kayaks.  Once again YakAttack has come through and provided the solution for kayak anglers.

The GearTrack system allows movement of rod holders and other accessories on your kayak without need for dozens of mounts.  Simply slide the accessories on the track to match the fishing or conditions you are facing at that moment.

Tracks come in 4 lengths and are sold in pairs.  All kits include necessary hardware for mounting and even the drill bit needed for pilot holes.  Installation couldnt be any easier!

Try using several shorter tracks spaced a few inches apart instead of one long track for even more versitile-easy use mounting of rod holders.

PanFish Portrait Camera Mount by YakAttack

PanFish_Portrait1_lowres

Designed for mounting in front of the paddler, the low profile of this full featured camera mount keeps it out of your way but readily available for trophy pictures or reverse angle video of the big fight.

The pivoting head can be positioned at any angle in the horizontal plane. This creates the perfect scenario for "hero" shots.

1) Rotate LCD towards you
2) Navigate your camera's menu to set the delay timer
3) Rotate lens towards you and pick up your fish before timer fires
4) Perfect hero shot!

This same process can be used for taking Catch-Photo-Release photos while holding the fish securely to the measuring board and getting your mug in the shot to boot!

The PanFish Portrait™ was designed for a maximum payload of 2 lbs, making it ideal for reverse angle video with "heavier" cameras.

Ghostfishing is a term that describes what happens when derelict fishing gear 'continues to fish'

At ECKF we are assisting the NOAA Marine Debris Program with getting the word out. Please spread the word.

Derelict fishing gear, sometimes referred to as "ghost gear," is any discarded, lost, or abandoned, fishing gear in the environment. This gear continues to fish and trap animals, entangle and potentially kill marine life, smother habitat, and act as a hazard to navigation. Derelict fishing gear, such as nets or traps and pots, is one of the main types of debris impacting the marine environment today.

The NOAA Marine Debris Program is working with fishermen to provide a place to dispose of fishing gear free of charge. Through the Fishing for Energy partnership, derelict gear is collected and recycled (e.g., metal) or used to create energy to power homes. In the first three years of this program, over one million pounds of derelict fishing gear was collected. The Fishing for Energy partnership includes NOAA, Covanta Energy Corporation, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and Schnitzer Steel.

Grace Digital Audio - Eco Extreme Waterproof Audio Case

For all of you that have been looking for a kayak sound system. It is here. The Eco Extreme. Both a dry box and a audio amplifying system. Just plug in your MP3 player/radio close the case and turn it on.

Team ECKF Review by CITYOFASH:

This is a great invention. Especially for us. Fully waterproof. The closing lathes are a great design with a push button lock/unlock design.
The way i use it is attatch my Sandisk Sansa to the 1/8" Headset Jack. This way i can use its settings to either listen to preloaded MP3's or FM radio. Sansa doesnt have AM radio. Then i throw my car keys in the dry box and latch it shut. Turning the volume/ power knob on the case powers it on and adjusts volume. Use the carabiner to clip it to my seat strap and get my paddle and drop in.

Must say this has been great while fishing alone passes the time by faster.

Fishing Kayaks 101: Learn about new fishing kayaks and see all the kayaks in one place

New Fishing Kayaks are a very important part of the life of the kayak angler. As we all progress from the novice kayak angler to seasoned kayak angler we learn from experience and see the value of different types of fishing kayaks; for different places we fish and for different species we target. As a novice kayak angler we probably only have one type of fishing kayak, but over the years and from experience you quickly realize that different kayaks perform differently in situations we encounter, so the evolution of the kayak anglers is to have more then one fishing kayak.

The 3 longest fish division will not work with a kill tournament Due to State Regulations on size limits. I like the idea of the 3 longest fish. Its a fun one. By all means its the anglers choice if they want to keep legal fish. I think it should stick to photo submissions for entry's.
Neat!
